Brian

Brian is an R20 Romahome and we'll document his travels around the UK and Europe. Hopefully he'll find whacky and eccentric places and folk customs, good beer and wine and lots of new friends.

The adventure begins...

Anywhere we can park up in a pub car park, especially one listed in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide has got to be a good start. A roaring log fire and 4 decent real ales (Fuller's ESB, London Pride, ExmoorGold & Wealden Bitter) makes it even better. The Bowl Inn, hidden about 1 mile from Charing, Kent makes an ideal overnighter, leaving a 40 minute run into Dover tomorrow. The food is basic bar food but good value, well prepared and piping hot. For those with more gourmet tastes, The Plough, a further mile up the track at Stalisfield Green looks to be an excellent gastro-pub, again with a good choice of real ales. But it doesn't open on a Sunday evening, and anyway, the relaxed atmosphere of The Bowl and the apparently free use of their car park overnight makes a good start to the holiday.
It was too wet and murky to take our own photograph.
